The Presidential Center of the DPA of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a guest lecture on “The OSCE Approach to Environmental Security.” The session was led by Nuraddin Murshudlu, Senior Economic and Environmental Officer at the OSCE Programme Office in Astana.
The event brought together forty participants, including faculty and graduate students from leading higher education institutions in the capital.
The lecture focused on the implementation of the “Taza Kazakhstan” Environmental Culture Development Concept for 2024–2029, initiated by the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In his remarks, Nuraddin Murshudlu outlined how the OSCE advances comprehensive measures to strengthen environmental security by integrating water resource management, the transition to a green economy, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation.
He emphasized that environmental challenges—closely linked to the security and sustainable development of states—require strong interagency and regional cooperation.
Particular attention was given to the work of the Aarhus Centres, which ensure public access to environmental information and support young environmental leaders in Central Asia through various educational programs. He noted that strengthening environmental legislation, expanding digital monitoring tools, and enhancing civic engagement are key priorities the OSCE will continue to pursue.
The Concept aims to promote environmentally responsible behavior among citizens, enhance environmental literacy, and foster a culture of sustainable environmental management. It places special emphasis on educational activities, encouraging environmental values among youth and engaging students in discussions on current issues of sustainable development and environmental protection.
