At the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a lecture titled "Kazakhstani Heroes. The Tragedy of War (Kazakhstani People in the War with Nazi Germany" was held for students from the College of Management, Business, and Education in Astana.

The lecture is aimed at preserving the younger generation's historical memory of the great feat of the Kazakh people in the Great Patriotic War, awakening a sense of patriotism and respect for the victorious generation on the example of the immeasurable contribution and heroism of the Kazakh people to the Great Victory.

During the event, students learned about the key stages of the Great Patriotic War, military units and formations formed in the Kazakh SSR, significant battles, and the participation of Kazakh soldiers. The lecturer discussed the heroes of the Great Patriotic War from among Kazakhs and their feats.

"In the years of the Great Patriotic War, 160 Kazakhs were nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, but for various reasons, they never received this honor. The reasons for the denials varied—from ideological and political concerns to bureaucratic delays and documentation errors. Some of these heroes were later awarded the title ‘Halyk Kaharmany’ in independent Kazakhstan, but many remained without deserved recognition", - said Akbota Khamitova, leading researcher of the Cultural and Educational Projects Service.

In addition, the students were familiarised with the data on Kazakhs' contribution to the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War and heroes-partisans. Special attention was paid to the theme of Kazakh women's participation in the war of 1941-1945.

The lecture also addressed not only the heroism of Kazakhstanis at the front but also the labour efforts of the Kazakh people on the home front, which ensured that the military had everything necessary for victory.

One of the most tragic aspects of the Great Patriotic War was also touched upon—the suffering of prisoners in Nazi concentration camps and in the occupied territories, where millions perished.
