The Museum Collection of the Presidential Center of the Department of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Tea Set

(from Diplomatic Gifts to the Head of State)

This tea set was presented as a diplomatic gift to the Head of State, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, by the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, during his official visit to Kazakhstan on November 2, 2023.

The Hungarian land is rich in kaolin, so small workshops for the production of ceramics and faience have flourished here since the XVII century.

In 1826, the German industrialist Vince Stihgl opened a small manufactory in the town of Herend, near the famous resort area of Lake Balaton. Over time, production expanded, and Herend porcelain items became increasingly popular.

In 1842, the factory was granted the title of "Imperial and Royal Privileged Porcelain Factory" and the right to use Hungary's coat of arms. In 1948, the Herend porcelain factory was nationalized.

It is important to note that Herend's activities have been recognized as an essential part of Hungary's cultural heritage.
