(From diplomatic gifts to the Head of State, September 17, 2023, Dushanbe).

During the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K.K. Tokayev, to Dushanbe, the President of Tajikistan, E. Rahmon, presented him with an element of traditional Tajik clothing – a handmade shapan.

Tajik national attire varies depending on the region, with differences in colour and patterns. However, the general design of the clothing is similar across regions.

For men, the traditional outfit includes a shirt, loose trousers, a robe, a scarf-belt, a turban or headscarf, leather boots, and galoshes.

Women wear long-sleeved shirts paired with wide trousers and often adorn their heads with a scarf or turban.

Despite modern influences, the style of traditional clothing has not disappeared in rural areas of Tajikistan. Girls and women continue to wear turbans and scarves, particularly during celebrations such as weddings or birthdays.
