An iron sword with a gold-lined hilt and scabbard, which was made in Byzantium in the 7th century.
This weapon was discovered among items of the Pereshchepinsky treasure in 1912 in the Poltava province. The treasure is considered to be the burial place of Kubrat Khan of Great Bulgaria.
This valuable find included over 800 items, including silver and gold vessels. Now the found objects are in the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
It is worth noting that the sword of Khan Kubrat symbolizes the strength and spirit of the Bulgarian people. As such a symbol, the Bulgarian side presented a gift to the President of Kazakhstan, K.K.Tokayev.
