Congratulations on the occasion of one of the main holidays of Kazakhstan, embodying our independence - Capital Day!
Since gaining its capital status, Astana has come a long way, transforming from a regional centre into an ultramodern metropolis of international level. Over the past years, Astana has proudly hosted such large-scale international and republican forums as congresses of leaders of world and traditional religions, the OSCE summit, the Asian Games, the world exhibition EXPO, etc.
Just the other day, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit was successfully completed, attended by heads of state and government from 15 countries: China, Russia, India, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Mongolia, UAE, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also took part in the summit.
But this is the obverse side of the coin. There is another one, which is that Astana is home to more than one and a half million of our fellow citizens. Today, a lot is being done to ensure their comfort and well-being. The general plan of Astana until 2035 has been approved, large social facilities and new residential buildings are being built, road infrastructure and the public transport system are being improved, public spaces are being landscaped, gasification is actively underway, the storm sewer system is being modernized, a new bridge across the Yesil River has opened, the first stage of CHP-3 has been completed, a new water pipeline from the Astana reservoir was completed and much more.
However, the prosperity of Astana depends not only on official structures and officials but also on each resident, and on our responsible and careful attitude. Therefore, everyone should try to make their best contribution to the development of our beloved city.
