The Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a meeting of the International Round Table "Archival business at the present stage: problems and prospects of development", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the National Archival Fund and Archives".
Opening the event, Director of the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Temirbolat expressed confidence that this platform will provide an opportunity for Kazakhstani and foreign experts to discuss a number of topical issues of the development of the archival industry, including further improvement of the legislative framework, staffing, ensuring the safety of electronic information and much more.
According to Mirbolat Zhakypov, chairman of the branch trade union of employees of state institutions, in the conditions of modern realities, there is a need to adopt an updated law regulating archival and documentation activities in the country. The speaker also made a proposal to create a Union of archivists and document scientists of Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Roza Karibzhanova, Deputy Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted that closer attention should be paid to the development of a unified archival terminology, general provisions for determining the value of documentation, the organization of accounting for declassified documents, as well as recommendations on the preservation and use of information in the Internet resources of government agencies.
The Director General of the Department of the National Library of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Nidal Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Ahmad, shared in his speech about the cooperation in the field of archival activities between Kazakhstan and Jordan.
According to Ibraim Babayev, head of the Department of the Committee for Archives, Documentation and Book Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, taking into account global trends, work is actively underway to digitize documents, in 2023 this figure amounted to 1 million 651 thousand documents converted to digital format. As far as possible, the issue of training professional personnel is also being resolved, so this year 189 educational grants were allocated in the specialties of archival and library science.
In turn, Mikhail Larin, Head of the Department of the Russian State University for the Humanities, spoke about Kazakh-Russian projects to train industry specialists, including the organization of a joint summer school for young archivists from neighboring countries, training students in a master's program, etc.
Yermek Zhusupov, a veteran of the Archival Service of Kazakhstan, shared his memories of the process of adopting the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the National Archival Fund and Archives" with the audience, since he worked directly as part of the working group on the development of this document.
Veteran of the Archival service of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gaziza Isakhan, professor of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University Turganzhan Tolebayev, associate professor of the Humanitarian School of Narkhoz University Akmaral Yerkak also took part in the discussion.
