A panel discussion titled “Towards Sustainable Growth: Kazakhstan’s Integration into the Global Economy” was held at the Presidential Center of the Administrative Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together about 70 participants, including representatives of government agencies, international organizations, business circles, the academic and expert communities, as well as students and faculty from domestic universities.
“Being part of the global system, Kazakhstan is in the same boat with everyone else and naturally cannot stay on the sidelines of ongoing processes. In response to modern challenges, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has put forward an economic strategy aimed at overcoming systemic issues of the national economy—raw-material dependency, low labor productivity, insufficient innovation, and unequal income distribution. The goal of our meeting is expert analysis and discussion of current issues of Kazakhstan’s sustainable economic development in the context of the strategic objectives set by the Head of State,” noted Director of the Presidential Center Bakytzhan Temirbolat in his speech.
For her part, Zarina Zhaxenova, Director of the Department of Foreign Trade Activities of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about the international economic processes that accompanied Kazakhstan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
In an environment of intensifying international competition and transformation of the global trading system, Kazakhstan’s participation in key international economic institutions such as the World Trade Organization serves as an important mechanism for promoting national interests, enhancing competitiveness, and deepening the country’s integration into global economic processes.
During the event, experts shared analysis on how these steps have influenced the development of foreign trade, strengthened export potential, and expanded economic opportunities for businesses.
“The Asian Development Bank comprehensively supports the sustainable and balanced development of Kazakhstan’s economy by assisting in the implementation of government reforms through the provision of technical assistance and loan resources,” said Gennady Rau, Chief Economist of the ADB’s Resident Mission in Kazakhstan.
Given the priorities outlined in the President’s strategic documents and Addresses, expert reflection on practical ways to implement economic priorities is of particular importance.
In his speech, Erlan Dairbekov, Project Coordinator of the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan, spoke about the implementation of projects on renewable energy and energy efficiency, reducing harmful emissions, and the potential of the country’s “green” economy.
“Sustainable development is a balance between production and consumption, considering both export prospects and domestic demand,” he said.
Additionally, participants discussed current economic trends and developed steps aimed at implementing Kazakhstan’s new economic model.
Following the event, an electronic catalog of informational materials from the panel discussion will be prepared.
