On October 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., the Presidential Center of the DPA RK will host the opening ceremony of the thematic exhibition "The Path to Sovereignty," organized in collaboration with the Nursultan Nazarbayev Foundation.
The exhibition uses archival materials, books, and museum exhibits to demonstrate the historical and socio-political significance of the Declaration, highlight its role in developing independent Kazakhstan, showcase the country's achievements during its independence, and foster civic engagement and patriotism among the public.
On October 25, 1990, the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Kazakh SSR.
In June 2022, at a meeting of the National Kurultai, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed restoring Republic Day as a national holiday. This underscores the significance of the Declaration of Sovereignty as the first major step toward independence and the starting point of Kazakhstan's modern history.
The Declaration became the republic's first fundamental state act. It enshrined the country's indivisibility and inviolability, defining the state as an object of international law. This document proclaimed the primacy of republican laws over union laws and the republic's aspiration for de facto independence within the USSR.
The exhibition features sections on historical aspects that reveal the background and the process of the Declaration’s adoption. It presents the political and legal foundations laid out by the Declaration, including the principles of a unitary state and territorial integrity. The exhibition also covers cultural and national elements related to the revival of the unique culture and traditions of the Kazakh people and other ethnic groups. Additionally, it emphasizes the strengthening of national identity and the role of the Declaration in establishing an independent state.
