On March 4, in the museum of the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the students of the 6th grade of school-lyceum № 11 named after Uzbekali Zhanibekov of Astana held a lesson “Institute of Batyrhood: traditions, status, and weapons”.
Senior expert of the Cultural and Educational Projects Service Gulsum Sarsekeeva familiarized the participants with the history of Kazakh weapons and traditions of batyrhood. The lesson was organized in an interactive format, engaging with the exhibits, and making it both exciting and informative.
The museum lesson began with a discussion on the independence of Kazakhstan and the significance of May 7th as Defender of the Fatherland Day. The students then learned about the tradition of gifting weapons, which symbolize power and respect. The presentation of a unique collection of weapons included samples of traditional Kazakh, Arab, Caucasian, and European weaponry.
Special attention was given to the concept of "Bes karu" — the five types of traditional weapons of Kazakh batyrs. The lecturer elaborated on their historical role and significance. The schoolchildren also learned about the lives and exploits of batyrs such as Bogenbay, Kabanbay, and Malaysary and their significance for the history of our country. Additionally, the students were introduced to famous weapon craftsmanship schools like Kubachi and Zlatoust.
An important part of the lesson was the tactile experience with the exhibits. The students could not only see but also touch the weapons, which allowed them to understand their design and significance better.
At the end of the fascinating session, the students were given a guided tour of the museum.
