On February 13th of this year, ninth-grade students from Gymnasium No. 6 in Astana visited the Presidential Center of the DPA of Kazakhstan to participate in a museum lesson titled "The Institution of Batyrhood: Traditions, Status, and Weaponry."
At the beginning of the session, the lecturer and students discussed the significance of Kazakhstan's independence, its historical development, and the national holidays—Independence Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day. The students actively shared their knowledge, exchanged opinions, and engaged in discussions about the country's security.
The participants then became acquainted with the institution of batyrhood and its important military and political role in Kazakh society. The lecturer emphasized that batyrhood was not merely a military concept but an integral part of the nomadic way of life. Batyrs dedicated their lives to warfare, and dying in battle was regarded as an honorable fate.
Special attention was given to the tradition of weapon gifting, its history, and its significance. The students studied the concept of "bes karu"—the system of armament of a Kazakh batyr, which included five types of weapons.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the lesson was the opportunity to touch and explore the museum exhibits. The students were able to examine collections of weaponry, learn about renowned schools of weapon craftsmanship, and hold some exceptional artifacts.
The museum session allowed the students to deepen their knowledge of Kazakhstan’s history while also engaging with the cultural heritage of their people. Such educational events play an essential role in fostering respect for traditions and cultivating an understanding of the importance of the country's historical past. The museum session enabled the students to enhance their knowledge of Kazakhstan’s history and, at the same time, engage with the cultural heritage of their people.
